Job summary

Prospero Teaching is recruiting a Trauma-Informed Mentor to support children and young people across the BCP area through personalised 1:1 mentoring. You will help learners develop confidence, resilience and emotional regulation, working on behalf of Local Authorities with a focus on relationship-led support.

The role offers flexible hours, a September start, and long-term placements. A strong trauma-informed approach and ability to build trusting relationships are essential to succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personalised 1:1 mentoring to learners.
  • Support children and young people to develop confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, and engagement.
  • Help learners feel safe, understood, and supported while encouraging engagement.
  • travel locally across the BCP area as needed.

Trauma-Informed Mentor

Support Young People Through Positive Relationships and Consistent Guidance

We're looking for a Trauma-Informed Mentor to support children and young people across the BCP area through personalised 1:1 mentoring.

Working on behalf of Local Authorities, you'll support learners who require alternative educational provision and would benefit from a trusted adult helping them develop confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, and engagement. Many of the young people we support have experienced barriers to education and thrive when provided with consistent, relationship-led support.

This role is focused on mentoring rather than academic tutoring, making it ideal for professionals who are passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and helping them achieve positive outcomes.

Start Date: September

Hours: Flexible

Pay Rate: £25-£30 per hour

Type: 1:1 Mentoring

Requirements
  • Minimum 6 months' experience in an educational setting
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant (TA), Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Mentor, Tutor, Teacher, Youth Worker, or similar role
  • A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice is highly desirable
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
  • Experience supporting learners with SEND, SEMH, EHCPs, or additional needs is desirable
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
  • Driver preferred; alternatively, willingness to travel locally across the BCP area
