Job summary

Empowering Learning is recruiting a Learning Support Assistant for a specialist school in Bushey to support pupils with SEND and trauma-informed needs. The role is long-term, full-time, 8:30am–3:30pm, with a daily rate of £105–£120.

You will build trusting relationships, monitor progress, and deliver targeted interventions to promote emotional regulation and resilience in learners. DBS checks and safeguarding are integral to the role.

Qualifications

  • Has experience supporting children or young people who have experienced trauma, adversity, attachment difficulties or ACEs.
  • Understands how trauma can affect behaviour, emotional regulation and learning.
  • Experience working with SEND, SEMH, alternative provision, education, youth work, residential care or children’s services.
  • Can build strong, trusting relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Calm, patient and resilient, able to respond positively in challenging situations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Committed to safeguarding and improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.
  • First Aid qualification is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Build positive, consistent and trusting relationships with pupils who have experienced trauma and adversity.
  • Support pupils one-to-one and in small groups, adapting approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to promote emotional regulation, resilience and engagement in learning.
  • Help pupils develop social, emotional and life skills for future education and independence.
  • Monitor and record progress, contributing to personalised support plans.
  • Support teachers in delivering engaging, tailored learning activities.
  • Promote positive behaviour using a calm, restorative and trauma-informed approach.
  • Collaborate with families and professionals to achieve the best outcomes for pupils.
