Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking an Intensive Fostering Support Practitioner to join a newly formed team in Colchester. The role focuses on supporting foster carers and Looked After Children, providing stability and helping them reach their full potential, with some after-hours work.

The role requires mobility across a wider area and a commitment to a trauma‑informed placement support framework, delivering Intensive Fostering Support Plans under relevant legislation.

Qualifications

  • Educated to NVQ level 3 or equivalent by experience.
  • Experience in working with looked-after children and foster carers.
  • Experience collaborating with other professionals and agencies for the benefit of the client.
  • Be able to work as part of a team and be flexible with evenings and weekends.
  • Familiarity with the Children Act 1989, Children Leaving Care Act 2000 and Children and Social Work Act 2018 and fostering regulations.

Responsibilities

  • To give practical, personal and emotional support to looked-after young people and promote their health and well-being.
  • To facilitate assessment of need and ongoing monitoring and reassessment.
  • To enable young people to self-advocate and to advocate on their behalf.
  • To collaborate with Social Care and other agencies to support the young person.
  • To maintain records and write reports as required.
