Job summary

Stockport Council seeks a Deputy Children’s Home Manager SO1 to lead Bredbury Green Children’s Home, ensuring safe, nurturing care for ages 8–18. You will deputise for the Registered Manager, oversee safeguarding, care planning, and staff development, and drive trauma-informed practice.

You will apply strong leadership, professional judgement and relationships to deliver consistent daily practice and ensure high-quality outcomes within regulatory frameworks.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to build safe, respectful and trusting relationships with children, families and professionals with trauma-informed understanding.
• Experience leading, supervising and coaching staff with constructive feedback.
• Competence in assessment, risk management, care planning and accurate recording.
• Must have Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent; GCSEs in maths and English; IT skills.
• Regulatory knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted framework; senior experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee safeguarding, care planning, risk management and quality assurance.
• Lead staffing, recording and supervision to ensure high support and continuous improvement.
• Deputise for Registered Manager and maintain visible engagement with children and staff.
