Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a Trauma-Informed Classroom Assistant for a SEMH school in Ashington starting in September 2026. The role is term-time only, 9am-3pm, with potential for a permanent contract after a probationary period.

You will support children aged 5-17 on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, using trauma-informed approaches to meet emotional, social and learning needs. Build trusting relationships, adapt activities to remove barriers, and foster a calm, inclusive learning

Qualifications

  • Recent experience supporting children or vulnerable adults.
  • An Enhanced DBS check or willingness to apply for one.
  • Ability to provide 2 recent employment references.

Responsibilities

  • Support children and young people one-to-one and in small groups using trauma-informed approaches to meet emotional, social and learning needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that promote emotional safety, resilience and engagement in learning.
  • Work with teaching staff to deliver personalised support and adapt learning activities to remove barriers to participation and progress.

Job Title: Trauma-Informed Classroom Assistant

Start date: 1st September 2026

Working hours: 9am-3pm Monday to Friday (Term-time only)

Salary: £450-£550 per week

We’re currently recruiting for a Trauma-Informed Classroom Assistant to join a specialist independent school in Ashington on a long-term basis starting in September. The school have multiple vacancies across 3 sites all based in south Northumberland. This role is long-term with the vision to be a permanent contract, following a positive probationary period.

You’ll be joining a supportive SEMH school for children aged 5-17, focused on building strong positive relationships with pupils and preparing them for life after education.

  • An Enhanced Child and Adult Workforce DBS or be willing to apply for one
  • The ability to provide 2 recent employment references

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
