Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a Trauma-Informed Classroom Assistant to join a specialist independent school in Ashington on a long-term basis starting in September. The role runs term-time, 9am-3pm, Monday to Friday, with a view to permanent contract following a positive probation.

You will support pupils aged 5-17 using trauma-informed approaches, building strong relationships and adapting activities to remove barriers to participation and progress.

Qualifications

  • Recent experience supporting children or vulnerable adults.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance or willingness to apply.
  • Ability to provide 2 recent employment references.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support using trauma-informed approaches.
  • Build positive relationships to promote emotional safety and engagement.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to adapt activities and remove barriers to participation and progress.
  • Create a calm, nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every child feels safe and valued.

Job Title: Trauma-Informed Classroom Assistant

Start date: 1st September 2026


Working hours: 9am-3pm Monday to Friday (Term-time only)


Salary: £450-£550 per week

The school have multiple vacancies across 3 sites all based in south Northumberland. This role is long-term with the vision to be a permanent contract, following a positive probationary period.


You'll be joining a supportive SEMH school for children aged 5-17, focused on building strong positive relationships with pupils and preparing them for life after education.

Your main responsibilities will include:


  • Supporting children and young people on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, using trauma-informed approaches to meet their emotional, social and learning needs.

  • Building positive, trusting relationships that promote emotional safety, resilience and engagement in learning.

  • Working alongside teaching staff to deliver personalised support and adapt learning activities to remove barriers to participation and progress.

  • Creating a calm, nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every child feels safe, valued and able to achieve their potential.


Requirements:


  • Recent experience supporting children or vulnerable adults

  • An Enhanced Child and Adult Workforce DBS or be willing to apply for one

  • The ability to provide 2 recent employment references

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
