Job summary

Fowler Welch, part of the Culina Group, is seeking a Transport Supervisor at our Teynham site to lead traffic and driver operations and optimise resources. The role focuses on ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient planning of company and agency drivers and vehicles.

You will manage driver performance, coordinate with customers, and support the Transport Manager while upholding our standards in a fast-paced logistics environment.

Qualifications

• Transport experience in FMCG environment.
• Previous Supervisory experience.
• Able to work effectively in a team.
• Good national geographical knowledge.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Knowledge & experience of tachograph / driving rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the traffic operations team and driver team to plan resources.
• Ensure safe operation and compliance with transport regulations.
• Plan and control equipment and resources to meet service targets.
• Plan utilisation of drivers, vehicles and agency drivers.
• Communicate effectively with Transport team and drivers.
• Liaise with customers on present or future service concerns.
• Undertake additional tasks as required by management.
• Maintain department discipline with HR support and policies.
• Identify training needs and organise development solutions.
• Support and deputise for Transport Manager in meetings or reviews.
• Collaborate with team to discuss efficiencies and practices.

Job Description

Our Teynham site have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Supervisor to join our team on a full time permanent basis!

As a Transport Supervisor you will be responsible for leading the traffic operations team and driver team in ensuring the planning of company and third party resources. As well as managing vehicle utilisation and ensuring drivers are given clear and precise instructions.

Salary: £37,000- £41,000 per annum.

Shift: Wednesday-Saturday, 7am-7pm.

Key Duties of a Transport Supervisor

• To ensure that colleagues you have responsibility for work within a safe environment and that the transport operation, and its driver’s, operates within current transport related regulations.
• Manage driver performance and behaviours using available technology and tools focusing on driver’s hours, infringements, driving style and driver compliance such as vehicle checks etc.
• Plan & control equipment and resource to ensure that customer service level targets are met and exceeded.
• To plan the effective utilisation of drivers, vehicles and agency drivers.
• To ensure that all elements of the job are communicated effectively to Transport team and drivers.
• Liaise with customers regarding present or future concerns that may impact service levels agreed.
• Undertake additional tasks/duties as may be required by management.
• Maintain department discipline including time keeping, conduct and performance with the support of HR and utilising the company disciplinary policy and procedures where appropriate and escalating issues when necessary.
• Identify the training and development needs for departmental Colleagues and coach/organise/oversee solutions using own knowledge and company training tools.
• To support and if necessary, deputise of the Transport Manager in meetings or customer reviews.
• Close liaison with fellow team members and management to discuss efficiencies and agreed operational practices.

Qualifications

• Transport experience ideally in a FMCG environment.
• Previous Supervisory experience
• Able to work effectively in a team.
• Good national geographical knowledge.
• The ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure.
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft office packages.
• Excellent communication skills in order to deliver accurate information.
• Thoroughness/attention to detail.
• Knowledge & experience of tachograph / driving rules and regulations.
