Job summary

Unipart is seeking a highly analytical and forward-thinking Solutions Design Engineer - Transport to focus on strategy and performance. The role delivers end-to-end transport solutions across sectors for new business growth, existing client innovations, and strategic projects in a field-based setting.

This fixed-term contract runs to June 2027, with a salary of up to £60,000 per year, a car or car allowance, 33 days holiday, pension, life assurance, employee assistance programme, wellbeing

Qualifications

• Proven experience within logistics, supply chain, or a comparable data-intensive industry.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.
• Proven experience in Transport Routing and Scheduling.
• An ability to think strategically and see the 'bigger picture' beyond day-to-day operations.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for various stakeholders.
• A proactive and inquisitive mindset, with a passion for continuous learning and improvement.

Responsibilities

• Analyse historical transport data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for network improvement. Model the impact of potential changes, such as new depot locations, different routing strategies, or shifts in delivery patterns
• Develop, monitor, and report on a suite of strategic Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) covering cost, service, and sustainability. Go beyond daily metrics to analyse cost-to-serve, asset utilisation, and environmental impact
• Act as a key analytical resource for continuous improvement initiatives. Provide the data and insights needed to build business cases for new technologies, process changes, and strategic projects
• Support the Solution Design and Business Development teams by providing essential data analysis for new client tenders and solution reviews. Evaluate the potential of emerging technologies and alternative fuels
• Analyse the performance of our partner carriers against agreed service levels and cost benchmarks. Support strategic carrier reviews by providing objective, data-driven insights to foster partnership and drive improvement
• Investigate recurring operational challenges by analysing performance data to identify the underlying causes and recommend sustainable, long-term solutions
