Transport Shift Manager - Road Freight Operations

Lead the operation. Drive performance. Deliver results.

We're looking for an experienced Transport Shift Manager to take ownership of a fast-paced domestic road freight operation. This is an exciting opportunity for a transport professional who thrives on making operational decisions, balancing resources, and ensuring exceptional service while maintaining strict compliance.

You'll be responsible for managing the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring customer commitments are met safely, efficiently, and at the best possible cost. Working within a complex network, you'll coordinate workload across own fleet, domestic partners, subcontractors, and third-party suppliers, making real-time decisions that maximise service, utilisation, and profitability.

A strong understanding of Collection & Delivery (C&D) operations is essential. You'll know how to manage changing priorities, respond quickly to operational challenges, and keep freight moving while maintaining high service standards.

Compliance is at the heart of the role. You'll have a thorough knowledge of Drivers' Hours regulations and the Working Time Directive (WTD), ensuring all transport activities are planned and managed within legislative requirements. You'll also promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across the shift.

What you'll bring:
  • Proven experience managing a road freight transport operation.
  • Strong knowledge of C&D planning and execution.
  • Excellent understanding of Drivers' Hours and WTD legislation.
  • Experience balancing work between own fleet, subcontractors, domestic partners, and third-party providers.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to deliver operational excellence at the lowest sustainable cost.
  • Confident decision-making skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and people management skills.

In return, you'll join a business where your expertise will make a genuine impact. If you're passionate about transport operations, enjoy solving complex logistical challenges, and have the drive to lead high-performing teams in a dynamic environment, we'd love to hear from you.
