At Uniserve, we're about more than transport - we're about exceptional delivery. As our Planning Manager - North, your strategic leadership will be key to our operational efficiency, profitability, and customer experience.
Your Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate day-to-day and long-term planning of the network transport operations across multiple depots within the midlands and northern region.
- Lead a team of transport planners and schedulers to ensure routes are efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with UK transport legislation.
- Develop and implement regional planning process’ aligned with national transport strategy, driving revenue and delivering an industry leading customer experience.
- Monitor and develop key performance indicators (KPIs), including on-time performance, revenue per shift, cost per shift, vehicle utilisation, and driving new business and opportunities for the group.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis, route optimisation software, and stakeholder feedback.
- Support developments within the technology operated to make it ‘right sized’ for the group’s requirements.
- Engaging with stakeholders to develop feedback loops within area of responsibility to ensure all colleagues feel listed too, engaged and aware of their part to play within our success.
- Manage capacity planning, peak period forecasting, and contingency measures for disruptions (e.g., weather events, road closures).
You’ll have:
- Proven experience in road transport planning or logistics at a managerial level, ideally within a multi-site regional setting.
- Strong understanding of UK road transport legislation and operational best practices.
- Proficient in transport management systems (TMS) and route planning software (e.g., Paragon, Microlise, PTV, or similar).
- Demonstrable leadership skills with experience managing teams and cross-functional coordination.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication abilities.
- Financial acumen, clear understanding of P&L.
- Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Transport (National) desirable.
