Job description

Strategically drive our network's success

At Uniserve, we're about more than transport - we're about exceptional delivery. As our Planning Manager - North, your strategic leadership will be key to our operational efficiency, profitability, and customer experience.

Your Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee and coordinate day-to-day and long-term planning of the network transport operations across multiple depots within the Midlands and northern region.
  2. Lead a team of transport planners and schedulers to ensure routes are efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with UK transport legislation.
  3. Develop and implement regional planning processes aligned with the national transport strategy, driving revenue and delivering an industry-leading customer experience.
  4. Monitor and develop key performance indicators (KPIs), including on-time performance, revenue per shift, cost per shift, vehicle utilisation, and identify new business opportunities for the group.
  5. Drive continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis, route optimisation software, and stakeholder feedback.
  6. Support technological developments to ensure systems are ‘right-sized’ for the group’s requirements.
  7. Engage with stakeholders to develop feedback loops within your area of responsibility, ensuring colleagues feel heard, engaged, and aware of their role in our success.
  8. Manage capacity planning, peak period forecasting, and contingency measures for disruptions (e.g., weather events, road closures).
You’ll have:
  • Proven experience in road transport planning or logistics at a managerial level, ideally within a multi-site regional setting.
  • Strong understanding of UK road transport legislation and operational best practices.
  • Proficiency in transport management systems (TMS) and route planning software (e.g., Paragon, Microlise, PTV, or similar).
  • Demonstrable leadership skills with experience managing teams and cross-functional coordination.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication abilities.
  • Financial acumen with a clear understanding of P&L.
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Transport (National) is desirable.
