Job summary

Silver X Group is seeking a Transport Planning Lead for our Alfreton depot. This on-site role oversees drivers, route planning, costs, and profitability in a fast-paced transport operation.

You will manage a team, ensure compliance with Hours, WTD and tachographs, and drive continuous improvement across safety, service and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Drivers’ Hours and tachographs rules and WTD legislation.
• Experience leading transport teams and routes.
• Proven ability to cut costs and improve efficiency in planning.

Responsibilities

• Multi-drop planning and daily transport ops for a major customer.
• Ensure compliance with Drivers’ Hours, WTD, and tachograph rules.
• Manage and support a drivers team, including performance and attendance.
• Identify opportunities to reduce empty mileage and boost revenue.
• Build strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Utilise telematics and transport systems to monitor performance, cost and compliance.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Transport Planning Lead to join the Silver X Group at our Alfreton depot. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role for someone who enjoys ownership, thrives on operational challenge, and takes pride in running an efficient, compliant transport operation.

You’ll take responsibility for your own area within the transport function, managing drivers, planning routes, controlling costs, and identifying opportunities to improve performance and profitability.

Key Responsibilities for Transport Planning Lead

• Multi drop planning and managing daily transport operations for one of our largest customers, including route planning, fleet utilisation, and driver allocation
• Ensuring full compliance with Drivers’ Hours, Working Time Directive, and tachograph legislation
• Managing and supporting a team of drivers, including performance, attendance, and day-to-day issues
• Identifying opportunities to reduce empty mileage, improve efficiency, and increase revenue through effective planning and backloads
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders
• Using transport and telematics systems to manage performance, costs, and compliance
• Driving continuous improvement across safety, service, and profitability

About You

We’re looking for someone who brings:

• Strong Knowledge of Drivers’ Hours, tachographs, and WTD legislation
• Confident people manager with excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Highly organised, able to prioritise and make decisions in a fast-moving environment
• Commercially minded, with a focus on cost control and operational efficiency
• Proven experience in transport planning or transport operations
• Experience working with a fleet of 10+ vehicles (preferred)
