Job Description
We are looking for a Transport Planner to join our team. The purpose of this role is to allocate specific vehicles and Drivers to each job, arrange for delivery of our product, and ensure processes are being adhered to, whilst always providing the most cost-effective solution.
How will you contribute?
- Optimise deliveries to achieve the highest Journey payload in pursuit of optimum KPI efficiency and minimise cost through the production of several plans and selecting the optimal solution from both a service and cost perspective.
- Liaise with external hauliers as required.
- Understand, interpret, and ensure the timely delivery of all orders received from the business.
- Manage customer delivery lead-time (ATP).
- Serve as a direct point of contact between Logistics and Driver Support teams.
- Engage where possible the most cost-effective delivery solutions focusing on cost control without compromising Group service level aspirations.
- Develop positive relationships with all stakeholders to ensure collaborative contribution and challenge to the delivery plan.
- Be the primary link between Sales, Operations, and Logistics for all matters affecting the delivery plan.
- Ensure delivery plans reflect resource availability.
- Produce strategic plans to identify pinch points and resource availability issues.
- Take an active role in the Plan/Do/Review cycle to drive continuous improvements in planning processes.
- Collaborate with Sites and 3rd Party Hauliers to identify potential improvements in cost and service.
- Support and monitor budget compilation and tracking.
- Maintain accurate and updated systems considering changing factors like road closures, speeds, and unloading/loading times, while ensuring overall Housekeeping.
- Provide training to colleagues as required.
- Ensure timely updates within systems to maintain service levels and timely deliveries.
- Produce KPI reports on performance metrics and identify remedial actions to meet targets.
Requirements
- Previous experience in transport planning.
- Ability to work independently, organize workload, and prioritize duties according to business demands.
- Effective communication with senior management and acting as a liaison between Logistics Planning, Sales, and Operations.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Logical thinker with attention to detail and high commitment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, both individually and in groups.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, numerical, and IT skills.
