Transport Planner

Location: Bolton

Salary: GBP32,000 - GBP37,000 (depending on experience)

Shift: 4 on 4 off, Days, 6am - 6pm

We are currently recruiting an experienced Transport Planner to join a large haulage business specializing in general haulage and 3PL FMCG operations throughout the UK.

The successful candidate will support the current transport operation by managing route planning across general haulage and automotive divisions.

Candidate Requirements:

• Previous experience in a transport planning role within a transport operation
• Experience in food 3PL operations is highly desirable
• Experience in planning for collection and backhaul networks is desirable
• General haulage route planning experience is highly desirable
• Experience working in a fast-paced transport environment
• Experience working towards revenue targets in HGV route planning
• Proficiency with system-based planning tools
• Strong knowledge of tachograph regulations
• Excellent administrative skills
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Decisive and competent decision-making skills
• Good geographical knowledge

Responsibilities:

• Planning routes for full loads, general haulage, and 3PL FMCG sectors
• Using geographical knowledge to maximize fleet efficiency
• Supervising and managing driver workloads
• Handling driver queries face-to-face and via telephone
• Reporting and escalating tracker errors to the Transport Planning Supervisor
• Informing drivers of road issues and challenging them to ensure timely deliveries
• Liaising with the Transport Planning Supervisor regarding vehicle maintenance
• Prioritizing customer service in delivery planning while maintaining profitability
• Ensuring drivers are briefed on their daily activities and start times
• Reviewing and optimizing driver routes for efficiency
• Keeping customers informed of delays or failed services
• Acting as a communication link between customers and drivers
• Managing driver activities in compliance with the Working Time Directive and driving hours
• Providing excellent customer service to all clients
