Gregory Distribution Ltd. seeks a Transport Operator for our Hereford general haulage operation. You will join the transport team handling administration and coordinating daily running of a busy fleet.

Key duties include supporting the Transport Manager, planning activities, leading drivers, and maintaining customer relationships to ensure efficient service and compliance. The role requires strong communication and IT literacy in a fast-paced logistics environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist Transport Manager to lead the transport team for peak and off-peak periods.
• Plan and organise day-to-day transport operation activities.
• Provide leadership on day-to-day transport issues with drivers and vehicles.
• Collaborate with customers to ensure smooth operation.
• Manage and de-brief drivers; optimize asset use and planning.
• Prepare regular reports to Transport Manager on KPIs and matters.
• Monitor Health and Safety compliance.
• Handle queries by email, phone, and in person promptly.
• Assist with KPI production and daily statistics.

Job Description:

At Gregory Distribution, we are currently seeking a Transport Operator for our general haulage transport operation in Hereford. This position will be working within the transport team and will involve all aspect of the transport administration processes and coordination of the day to day running of this busy fleet.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Transport Manager to manage and motivate the transport team to ensure that staff and assets are used effectively to attain maximum performance in terms of commercial contract efficiency, profit, and client service levels.


• Planning and organising the activities of the Transport Operation, including the transition between the customers' peak and off-peak activity periods.


• Provide leadership of day-to-day transport issues, including dispatch debrief with drivers, vehicles, and work in progress.


• You will also be required to work closely with our customer to ensure the smooth running of the operation as a whole.


• Managing and de-briefing drivers.


• Maximise the use of resources within the operation by utilising assets to the full and planning ahead.


• Provide regular reports to the Transport Manager on customer related and other relevant matters, making recommendations where relevant.


• Monitoring and auditing Health and Safety.


• Answering all queries via email, phone, and face to face in a timely manner.


• Assisting in production of KPI's and daily statistics POD emailing.


• Assist with compliance planning in line with company procedure.


• Direct assistance and support for breakdowns.


• Promoting and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and offering support and assistance in your role as a team member.

Requirements:

• Previous experience of working within the Transport Warehouse and logistics industry.


• Have a good understanding of legal compliance, driver's hours and WTD's.


• Leadership Skills.


• Track record of leading successful change.


• Proven experience in customer relationship management.


• Ability to present to Senior Key contacts within the business and to the customer.


• Have excellent communication skills both verbal and written.


• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.


• IT literate including MS Office. Strong analytic ability in review data and reports.
