Job summary

Fowler Welch, part of the Culina Group, seeks a Transport Operator in Evesham to manage driver and vehicle utilisation and ensure service levels within hours regulation and safety guidelines.

You will liaise with planning, communicate clearly to drivers and sub-contractors, and support investigations and KPI-driven cost management, contributing to safe, efficient logistics operations.

Qualifications

• Experience in distribution/transport environments.
• Ability to manage own workload under pressure.
• Strong geographical knowledge.
• Basic understanding of drivers' hours regulations/Tachograph law.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Initiative and ability to work unsupervised.

Responsibilities

• Communicate all job elements to drivers and sub-contractors.
• Plan driver, vehicle, sub-contractor, and agency utilisation, considering all company sites.
• Ensure drivers work within driver hours regulations and safety measures.
• Liaise with planning to optimise fleet/driver utilisation and delivery punctuality.
• Assist in equipment control to meet customer requirements and records.
• Ensure trucks are legal and information is downloaded in a timely manner.
• Investigate accidents or issues of driver performance with Transport Supervisors and HR for consistent handling.
• Assist Supervisors in driver coaching on Virtual Risk Manager and cost management per KPI.
• Undertake additional tasks as required by Management.

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Operator to join our friendly team in Evesham on a full time permanent basis.

As the Transport Operator you will be responsible for effectively managing vehicle utilization and ensuring drivers are given clear and precise instructions. Ensuring that all service levels are met cost effectively and within the constraints of driver’s hours and H&S regulations.

Key Duties of a Transport Operator:

• Ensuring that all elements of the job are effectively communicated to drivers and sub-contractors.
• To plan the effective utilisation of drivers, vehicles, sub-contractors and agencies ensuring that all Company sites are fully considered when doing so.
• Ensure that all drivers are working within a safe environment and follow driver hours regulations.
• Liaising with planning team to optimise fleet/driver utilisation, identifying and resolving problems affecting delivery on time.
• To assist in the control of equipment, ensuring that customer requirements are met and recorded.
• Working with Compliance to ensure trucks are legal and information is downloaded in a timely manner.
• Conducting initial investigations into accidents or issues of driver performance and raising with Transport Supervisors and HR to ensure they are dealt with efficiently and consistently.
• Assist Supervisors in speaking to drivers about Virtual Risk Manager and improving driving style to improve FW MPG and overall safety and to ensure that costs are managed in accordance with the KPI’s.
• Undertake additional tasks/duties as may be required by Management from time to time.
