Job summary

Fowler Welch (Part of the Culina Group) in Evesham is hiring a Transport Operator on a full-time permanent basis. You will manage vehicle utilisation and give clear instructions to drivers, ensuring service levels are met cost-effectively within driver hours and H&S regulations.

The role requires experience in distribution/transport, strong organisational and communication skills, and the ability to plan unions of drivers, vehicles and sub-contractors. Salary £30,000 per annum.

Qualifications

• Experience in a distribution/transport environment.
• Experience managing own workload in a pressurised environment.
• Sound geographical knowledge.
• Basic understanding of driver hours regulations/Tachograph law.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Initiative and the ability to work unsupervised.

Responsibilities

• Communicate job requirements to drivers and sub-contractors.
• Plan utilisation of drivers, vehicles, sub-contractors, and agencies.
• Ensure drivers work within driver hours regulations and safe environment.
• Liaise with planning to optimise fleet and driver utilisation.
• Assist in equipment control to meet customer requirements.
• Ensure trucks are legal and data is downloaded timely.
• Investigate accidents or driver performance issues with HR.
• Support supervisors in improving driving style and cost management.
• Undertake additional tasks as required.

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Operator to join our friendly team in Evesham on a full time permanent basis.

As the Transport Operator you will be responsible for effectively managing vehicle utilization and ensuring drivers are given clear and precise instructions. Ensuring that all service levels are met cost effectively and within the constraints of driver’s hours and H&S regulations.

Salary: £30,000 per annum.

Working Hours: Wednesday-Saturday, 19:30pm- 7:30am.

Key Duties of a Transport Operator

• Ensuring that all elements of the job are effectively communicated to drivers and sub-contractors.
• To plan the effective utilisation of drivers, vehicles, sub-contractors and agencies ensuring that all Company sites are fully considered when doing so.
• Ensure that all drivers are working within a safe environment and follow driver hours regulations.
• Liaising with planning team to optimise fleet/driver utilisation, identifying and resolving problems affecting delivery on time.
• To assist in the control of equipment, ensuring that customer requirements are met and recorded.
• Working with Compliance to ensure trucks are legal and information is downloaded in a timely manner.
• Conducting initial investigations into accidents or issues of driver performance and raising with Transport Supervisors and HR to ensure they are dealt with efficiently and consistently.
• Assist Supervisors in speaking to drivers about Virtual Risk Manager and improving driving style to improve FW MPG and overall safety and to ensure that costs are managed in accordance with the KPI’s.
• Undertake additional tasks/duties as may be required by Management from time to time.
