Job summary

Culina is seeking a Transport Operator for the Chilled & Fresh division in the UK. The role is full-time with a salary of £30,000 per annum and involves planning driver and fleet utilisation, coordinating with drivers and sub-contractors, and ensuring compliance with safety and hours regulations.

Working in a fast-paced logistics environment, you will liaise with planning teams, monitor KPIs, and support continuous improvement while maintaining high service levels for customers.

Qualifications

• Experience of working within a distribution / transport environment.
• Ability to manage own workload in a pressurised setting.
• Solid geographical knowledge.
• Basic understanding of driver’s hours regulations/Tachograph law.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Initiative and the ability to work unsupervised.

Responsibilities

• Plan driver and fleet utilisation to meet deliveries across sites.
• Communicate instructions clearly to drivers and sub‑contractors.
• Ensure drivers operate within driver hours regulations and safety rules.
• Liaise with planning to optimise fleet/utilisation and resolve late deliveries.
• Assist in equipment control and record customer requirements.
• Ensure compliance data is downloaded and available for reporting.
• Investigate accidents or driver performance issues with Supervisors and HR.
• Support Supervisors in driver coaching to improve MPG and safety.

As part of our Chilled & Freshdivision, we have an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Transport Operator on a full time permanent basis.

Salary:£30,000 per annum.

As the Transport Operator you will be responsible for effectively managing vehicle utilization and ensuring drivers are given clear and precise instructions. Ensuring that all service levels are met cost effectively and within the constraints of driver’s hours and H&S regulations.

Key Duties of a Transport Operator:

• Ensuring that all elements of the job are effectively communicated to drivers and sub-contractors.
• To plan the effective utilisation of drivers, vehicles, sub-contractors and agencies ensuring that all Company sites are fully considered when doing so.
• Ensure that all drivers are working within a safe environment and follow driver hours regulations.
• Liaising with planning team to optimise fleet/driver utilisation, identifying and resolving problems affecting delivery on time.
• To assist in the control of equipment, ensuring that customer requirements are met and recorded.
• Working with Compliance to ensure trucks are legal and information is downloaded in a timely manner.
• Conducting initial investigations into accidents or issues of driver performance and raising with Transport Supervisors and HR to ensure they are dealt with efficiently and consistently.
• Assist Supervisors in speaking to drivers about Virtual Risk Manager and improving driving style to improve FW MPG and overall safety and to ensure that costs are managed in accordance with the KPI’s.
• Undertake additional tasks/duties as may be required by Management from time to time.
