Job summary

DPD Group UK is seeking a Transport Manager - Operations to lead the 24/7 transport operation at Carlisle, reporting to the General Manager - Transport Operations. You will manage the fleet, drive performance, and oversee a large team across shifts to ensure safe, efficient service for hubs and customers.

The role requires proven logistics leadership, capacity to work under pressure, and a focus on KPIs, safety, and environmental compliance.

• Experience running a large vehicle fleet.

Responsibilities

• Lead the transport fleet and drivers through Shift Managers, Traffic Clerks and Senior Drivers.
• Collaborate with the Hub Operational Team and Network Management.
• Ensure efficient service to Hubs, Network Depots and Customers.
• Motivate a large team to meet KPIs and departmental targets.
• Plan holidays, health and safety compliance and resource management.
• Ensure environmental policy compliance and audit results meet expectations.
• Deliver peak event planning for Bank Holidays and Cyber Weekend.
• Create training plans to multi-skill the team and ensure succession.
• Step in to cover General Manager duties when they are away.

Job Description

We are delighted to announce that we are currently seeking driven and motivated Transport Manager - Operations to join our team based at our XXXXXXX Site. Our operation runs 24 hours a day, 7 day a week XXXXXXX shift pattern

As the successful Transport Manager - Operations you will report directly to the General Manager - Transport Operationsand you’ll be a key member of the management team, working in a time critical distribution environment. Your key accountabilities will include;

Responsibility for actively managing the running of the DPD Group Transportfleet and drivers through a number of Shift Managers, Traffic clerks and Senior Drivers

Working closely with the Hub Operational Team and Network Management

Ensuring an efficient service to Hubs, Network Depots and Customers.

Leading and motivating a large team in pursuit of KPIs and departmental targets

The management of employee and vehicle resource, holiday planning, health and safety

Ensuring compliance with the company environmental policies and understanding legal requirements

Ensuring that department compliance audit results achieve company expectations

Proactively planning and delivering peak events such as Bank Holidays and Cyber Weekend

Create and deliver training plans for direct reports to multi skill the team and ensure department succession

Step up to cover the roles and duties of the General Manager when they are away from the business

Qualifications

Operating in an environment where working efficiently under pressure and at pace will be key to your success, you should have strong people management experience, involving direct accountability and responsibility for motivating and leading a high performing team. In addition, we’ll also expect you to:

Be an experienced logistics professional with strong operational management experience.

Have proven experience within a similar role having run a vehicle fleet of 400+ vehicles

Be an effective communicator with an enthusiastic, customer orientated approach

Have the ability to work under pressure

Job Specifics

You will have a thorough induction to the Transport operation as well as a comprehensive induction to DPD.

A Full UK driving Licence is essential for this role
