Job summary

Calor Gas Ltd. is hiring an experienced Transport Controller at our Neath site to lead daily transport operations and ensure safe, efficient gas distribution.

You will manage a team of drivers, uphold safety standards, and coordinate with maintenance and regulatory bodies to meet delivery schedules and KPIs. Applicants should have leadership experience and knowledge of transport regulations, with ADR and safety qualifications preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience in people management and leadership.
  • Knowledge of transport regulations and directives.
  • Preferably 3+ years in a supervisory/management role in a service environment.
  • ADR certificate or experience with hazardous goods is preferred.
  • Formal safety qualification (IF IOSHH/NEBOSH) is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day transport operations and ensure safe distribution of gas supplies.
  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of drivers and staff to meet delivery schedules.
  • Maintain site safety, compliance, and customer service standards.
  • Manage fleet checks, safety, and regulatory compliance with internal/external partners.
  • Deliver safety and performance briefings and drive cost-controlled operations.

Transport Controller

Site:Neath

Salary £43,000 - £53,000 depending on experience, plus excellent benefits

We are looking for an experienced Transport Controllerto join our team at ourNeath site. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled and motivated professional to take on a key leadership role within our management team.

As a Transport Controlleryou willbe responsible foroverseeing the day-to-day transport operations, ensuring the efficient and safe distribution of gas supplies. You will lead, motivate, and manage a team of drivers and staff, ensuring that delivery schedules are met whilemaintainingthe highest standards of safety, compliance, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage checks and controls to uphold fleet safety and reliability, collaborating closely with vehicle maintenance service providers to minimize downtime.
  • Understand and implement relevant legislation and standards, liaise with internal specialists and regulatory authorities, and continuously improve safety performance.
  • Maintain strict security of property and products, including serving as an emergency call-out key holder and attendingcall-outswhenrequired.
  • Utilise working knowledge of relevant legislation, safety, quality procedures, and site operating instructions.
  • Deliver regular company briefings on Safety and Performance to all employees.
  • Ensure sites under your control aremaintainedin line with company policies and external regulatory authorities.
  • Budgeting and Expenditure:
  • Work with senior management to prepare budgets and manage expenditure within specified parameters.
  • Prioritise the customer in decision-making processes and ensure employees are trained to deliver excellent customer service in all areas of the cylinder and bulk business.
  • Lead the dispatching and scheduling functions for the area, ensuring all planned delivery schedules consider driver and vehicle compliance with relevant transport regulations.
  • Coach, mentor, and planappropriate trainingand development for all staff and drivers.
  • Conduct performance reviews in line with company procedures to create a robust and efficient operation that meets financial targets and KPIs.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Proven skills in people management and leadership.
  • Ability to organize resources according to customer needs and company service levels through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Sound working knowledge of current transport regulations and directives.
  • Ideally, a minimum of 3 years' experience at management or supervisory level in a service-oriented environment, with financial experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of current employment legislation.
  • ADR certificate or experience with hazardous goods is preferred.
  • Formal safety qualification preferred (e.g., IOSHH, NEBOSH).
  • Ability to use company software packages, including TrakM8,TrutacParagon, and SAP, to enhance service delivery, improve driver performance, and provide the best possible customer experience.
