Job summary

Calor Gas Ltd. is seeking an experienced Transport Controller for our Neath site. You will oversee daily transport operations, lead a team of drivers, and ensure on-time deliveries with the highest safety and compliance standards.

You will manage fleet checks, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and customer service excellence across cylinder and bulk operations, while developing staff and driving performance improvements.

Qualifications

  • Transport Management CPC is required.
  • Proven leadership and people-management ability.
  • Able to organize resources to meet customer needs using KPIs.
  • Solid knowledge of current transport regulations and directives.
  • Minimum 3 years’ management experience in a service environment; financial experience preferred.
  • ADR certificate or experience with hazardous goods preferred.
  • Formal safety qualification (IOSH/NEBOSH) preferred.
  • Experience with SAP, TrakM8, and Paragon software is beneficial.

  • Uphold fleet safety, compliance, and site security.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and safety performance; liaise with authorities.
  • Deliver safety and performance briefings to employees.
  • Prepare budgets with senior management and manage expenditure.
  • Prioritize customer service and optimize service levels in cylinder and bulk business.
  • Coach and develop staff and drivers; conduct performance reviews.

Salary £43,000 - £53,000 depending on experience, plus excellent benefits

We are looking for an experienced Transport Controller to join our team at our Neath site. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled and motivated professional to take on a key leadership role within our management team.

As a Transport Controller you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day transport operations, ensuring the efficient and safe distribution of gas supplies. You will lead, motivate, and manage a team of drivers and staff, ensuring that delivery schedules are met while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage checks and controls to uphold fleet safety and reliability, collaborating closely with vehicle maintenance service providers to minimize downtime.
  • Understand and implement relevant legislation and standards, liaise with internal specialists and regulatory authorities, and continuously improve safety performance.
  • Maintain strict security of property and products, including serving as an emergency call-out key holder and attending call-outs when required.
  • Utilise working knowledge of relevant legislation, safety, quality procedures, and site operating instructions.
  • Deliver regular company briefings on Safety and Performance to all employees.
  • Ensure sites under your control are maintained in line with company policies and external regulatory authorities.
  • Budgeting and Expenditure:
  • Work with senior management to prepare budgets and manage expenditure within specified parameters.
  • Prioritise the customer in decision-making processes and ensure employees are trained to deliver excellent customer service in all areas of the cylinder and bulk business.
  • Lead the dispatching and scheduling functions for the area, ensuring all planned delivery schedules consider driver and vehicle compliance with relevant transport regulations.
  • Coach, mentor, and plan appropriate training and development for all staff and drivers.
  • Conduct performance reviews in line with company procedures to create a robust and efficient operation that meets financial targets and KPIs.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Transport Management CPC, Essential.
  • Proven skills in people management and leadership.
  • Ability to organize resources according to customer needs and company service levels through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Sound working knowledge of current transport regulations and directives.
  • Ideally, a minimum of 3 years' experience at management or supervisory level in a service-oriented environment, with financial experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of current employment legislation.
  • ADR certificate or experience with hazardous goods is preferred.
  • Formal safety qualification preferred (e.g., IOSHH, NEBOSH).
  • Ability to use company software packages, including TrakM8, Trutac Paragon, and SAP, to enhance service delivery, improve driver performance, and provide the best possible customer experience.
