Job summary

Veolia in Marchwood, Hampshire is recruiting a Transfer Station Operative. The role involves receiving, sorting, packing and storing hazardous waste, operating a forklift, and ensuring daily checks with 80% outdoor work and 20% office duties.

Training is provided and you will work 40 hours per week. Successful candidates will have GCSEs in English, Maths and IT, be confident with Excel and internal systems, and demonstrate a strong understanding of health and safety principles.

Qualifications

• Confident with Excel and internal systems
• Forklift experience desirable but not essential
• Strong understanding of health and safety principles
• Ability to read and understand Work Instructions and Risk Assessments
• Good communication skills and ability to work in a team or on own initiative
• Physically fit and comfortable with outdoor work

Responsibilities

• Receiving, sorting, packing and storing hazardous waste materials such as oils, aerosols, lithium batteries, plastic drums and general waste
• Operating a forklift truck for loading and unloading palletised waste
• Bulking and repacking waste materials as directed by Site Chemists
• Carrying out daily and weekly checks at the Transfer Station
• Organising outgoing loads and uploading shipments onto internal systems
• General housekeeping duties including sweeping and jet washing
• Working in accordance with current legislation, site licence and company procedures
• Role is 80% outdoors and 20% office based, with all training provided

What you'll be doing;

What we're looking for;

• English, Maths and IT GCSEs as a minimum, with A-levels preferable
• Confidence using Excel spreadsheets and internal computer systems
• Forklift truck experience is desirable but not essential
• A strong understanding and acceptance of health and safety principles
• Ability to read and understand Work Instructions and Risk Assessments
• Good communication skills with the ability to work both as part of a team and on your own initiative
• A strong work ethic with the ability to adapt to the demands of the day
• Physical fitness and comfort with predominantly outdoor working
