Sewell Wallis Ltd is partnering with a fast-paced North Sheffield business to recruit a transactional finance officer to join the finance team. The role focuses on day-to-day transactional work while offering exposure to month-end processes and financial reporting.

You will handle reconciliations, supplier invoices, purchase ledger tasks, and assist with analysis and balance sheet reconciliations as you develop accounting knowledge in a busy environment.

Sewell Wallis is currently working with a fast-paced South Yorkshire retail business that is now looking for a Transactional Finance Officer to join their finance team in North Sheffield. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in getting the detail right and is confident managing a varied transactional finance workload.

You’ll play an important role in supporting the day-to-day finance function, taking ownership of transactional finance, while also having the chance to be involved in month-end processes and financial reporting.

What will you be doing?

You’ll be providing day-to-day support across a broad range of transactional finance duties, including:

• Performing daily reconciliations of company bank accounts
• Processing supplier invoices and credit notes, matching invoices to purchase orders and goods received, and maintaining an accurate purchase ledger.
• Obtaining and reconciling monthly supplier statements, investigating disputed invoices and liaising with suppliers to resolve queries.
• Reviewing and monitoring purchase orders and setting up new supplier accounts, ensuring bank details are verified in line with company procedures.
• Reviewing credit card expenditure and ensuring expenses are correctly coded and supported by the appropriate documentation.
• Supporting month-end processes, including accruals, prepayments, fixed asset accounting and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assisting with financial analysis, reporting and the preparation of management accounts as your experience develops.
• Gaining exposure to audit and VAT-related processes while continuing to develop your technical accounting knowledge.

What skills are we looking for?

• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the confident use of SUMIFS and XLOOKUP and/or VLOOKUP.
• A good understanding of purchase ledger processes, supplier invoices and payment runs.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate financial records.
• Strong communication skills
