Job summary

Ashtead Technology in Westhill, Scotland, invites a Trainee Project Engineer to join our Survey and Robotics team. This role offers hands-on experience in software development, automation tools, AI-driven solutions and workshop improvement projects, with involvement in design, build, test and deployment of digital and physical solutions that boost workshop and business processes.

Starting January 2027, you will work alongside experienced engineers to develop technical and project delivery

Qualifications

HNC/HND qualification (or currently studying) in Software Engineering, CS, or related field.
Basic knowledge of Python, C#, JavaScript, VBA or similar.
Understanding of software applications, databases, networking and OS.
Genuine interest in engineering, automation and AI technologies.
Strong problem-solving and a hands-on learning approach.

Responsibilities

Support design, development and implementation of tools and systems to improve efficiency.
Assist with software development, automation projects and AI-based solutions.
Identify opportunities to reduce manual processes and enable smarter working.
Collaborate with Project Engineers to turn ideas into practical solutions.
Support testing, troubleshooting and deployment of new technologies.
Create and maintain technical documentation and operating procedures.
Work with technical, operational and workshop teams to deliver improvements.
