Job summary

East Suffolk Council is seeking a Trainee/Assistant Planner to develop towards Chartered Membership of RTPI. You will manage diverse planning applications, give pre-application advice, and collaborate across services to deliver quality outcomes.

The role supports RTPI progression, includes site visits, report drafting, and engagement with Members and the public. Hybrid working with some office-based visits and flexible hours is available.

Qualifications

• RTPI membership progression towards MRTPI is expected.
• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
• Planning-related master's qualification is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of planning applications from householder to complex proposals.
• Provide pre-application advice and engage with applicants, developers and consultees.
• Prepare delegated and committee reports and negotiate planning obligations.
• Support planning appeals and enforcement investigations where required.
• Provide professional planning advice to internal stakeholders and respond to public enquiries.
