Job summary

EIP is seeking a Trainee Patent Attorney to join our London team and work on photonics and optical inventions from day one. You will interact with clients and inventors, gaining exposure to lasers, imaging, optical communications and sensing.

The September 2027 start is standard, with flexibility for earlier joining. With VisserAI, our attorneys use cutting-edge AI tools to improve client satisfaction and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Academic degree in physics, optical engineering, photonics or electronic engineering
• PhD welcome, but not essential – expertise and capability matter most
• Curious, analytical, and excited by challenging technology
• Excellent written and verbal English, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly
• Meticulous attention to detail, initiative, and the ability to work independently
• Motivated to develop your networking skills and contribute to business development

Responsibilities

• Work on complex, high-value patent matters from drafting to litigation
• Be part of a top-tier team trusted on high-profile patent cases
• Operate where technologies intersect – photonics, quantum, health-tech and beyond

Education

Physics/Electrical Engineering/Photonics degree (2:1 or better)

PhD welcomed but not essential
