Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Trainee Necropsy Scientist to join our Harrogate, North Yorkshire team. The role involves training to perform basic macroscopic necropsy techniques across a variety of species, with emphasis on precise tissue handling, labeling, and data recording.

Ideal candidates will have GCSEs in science-related subjects and may hold a Biomedical Science or related degree. The position may require some out-of-hours work after training and a physical ability to lift and handle materials.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in Science, Biology, Maths and English.
• Degree in Biomedical Science, Forensic or Biological Sciences preferred.
• Home Office licence (if applicable).

Responsibilities

• After training, perform basic routine necropsy techniques on a range of species.
• Develop anatomy skills to identify and trim tissue samples; label and record data accurately.
• Handle animals and perform euthanasia in line with legal requirements.
• Maintain precise labelling and accurate data recording.
• Perform non-routine tasks such as freezing tissues and reagent preparation.

Job Responsibilities

• After training, performing basic routine macroscopic necropsy techniques including trimming and retaining all organs from a wide range of species
• The development and use of anatomy skills to identify and trim tissue samples which includes removal, handling, weighing and evaluation of organs
• Animal handling and euthanasia procedures in accordance with legal requirements
• Precise labelling of samples and accurate recording of data
• Performing non-routine tasks such as freezing tissues
• Preparation of reagents

Minimum Qualifications

• GSCE levels in Science, Biology, Maths and English

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Biomedical Science, Forensic or Biological Sciences

Home office licence

Additional Job Standards

• Some anatomy and dissection experience, if no experience then training will be provided
• Some experience within an Animal Necropsy team within a CRO and have GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) knowledge
• Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication, time management and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks
• Attention to detail and consistent accuracy whilst managing changing priorities
• There is an expectation to cover some out-of-hours work including weekends, once relevant training has been completed
• This is a physical role that requires some lifting, pushing and pulling within a fast paced environment, suitable for enthusiastic and committed individuals
