Trainee Land/Utility Survey Technician

Are you looking to build an exciting career in surveying? Do you enjoy working outdoors and have a keen eye for detail? Aspect Land & Hydrographic Surveys Ltd, a leading professional survey company, is expanding our team and looking for a Trainee Land/Utility Survey Technician to join us.

About us

With over 25 years of experience, Aspect Land & Hydrographic Surveys Ltd is a trusted name in chartered surveying, delivering high-quality services across the UK and internationally. We utilise the latest survey technology and adhere to RICS regulations, with accreditations from RICS, The Chartered Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors, and The Hydrographic Society.

As part of the SOCOTEC Group, we provide multi-disciplinary surveying solutions to a diverse range of clients. Due to continued expansion, we are seeking a Trainee Land/Utility Survey Technician to support our growing hydrographic and geophysical survey operations.

What does a Land & Utility Surveyor do?

Land & Utility Surveyors are essential to the success of construction, infrastructure, and development projects. Primarily, land surveyors measure and map the physical features and boundaries of a property using advanced tools such as GPS, total stations, and 3D scanning technologies. This data forms the foundation for site planning, design, and legal documentation.

In addition to surface mapping, many surveyors are also skilled in utility surveying. They employ technologies like Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic Locators to detect underground utilities. This helps prevent costly errors, ensures compliance, and reduces risks to both workers and existing infrastructure.

By delivering precise, reliable data above and below the ground, land and utility surveyors help ensure every project begins with clarity and confidence.

In this role, you will
  • Assist experienced Land Surveyors in conducting topographical, boundary, and construction-related surveys
  • Support Utility Surveyors with the detection and mapping of underground services using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic Locators (full training provided)
  • Work outdoors in a variety of environments and weather conditions
  • Operate a range of modern surveying equipment, both above and below ground
  • Travel to different sites, with early starts, occasional unsocial hours, and short stays away from home
  • Gain hands-on, practical experience while progressing toward formal industry-standard training and qualifications
