Job summary

SGN is seeking exceptional Trainee Gas Engineers in the Poole, Salisbury, Bournemouth, Weymouth and New Milton area. No CV required; we focus on values, skills and potential, with full training and equipment provided to safely repair, replace and lay gas mains and services.

You’ll support engineers on site, work outdoors in teams, and may have standby/overtime opportunities; a driving licence and being able to work a rota including weekends are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; full training provided.
• Valid UK driving licence is essential.
• Willing to work a rota including weekends and nights.
• Based within commutable distance from Poole, Salisbury, Bournemouth, Weymouth or New Milton.
• Must be clean shaven and pass a face fit test.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers on site during gas service and mains repair activities.
• Excavation and laying/repairing gas pipes in outdoor environments.
• Maintain SGN vans and tools to ensure safe, efficient work.
• Be available for standby and overtime when required.

You will be given all training and equipment to support our Engineers in repairing, replacing, and laying new gas mains and services. With no prior experience needed, we will provide everything to fully equip you with the tools and knowledge to keep our customers safe and warm.

How you’ll support us on our mission to keep people safe and warm…

• Support engineers on site and learning from them daily during gas service and mains repair activities
• Excavation, digging in the public & private highways, laying and repairing gas pipes so you will work in various outdoor environments safely and as part of a team
• Being part of essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people all year around and at any time day or night – standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours
• You will maintain the SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring your team has all the equipment to do your job safely and efficiently

Will be required to be clean shaven: As part of our commitment to the personal safety of our employees you will be required to be clean shaven, and pass a face fit test, to wear tight fitting dust masks and breathing apparatus. This is for personal protection to ensure you don’t breathe in any harmful substances, whilst carrying out critical work within our communities.

Holds a valid UK driver’s licence: A full, valid UK driver’s licence is essential for this role.

Due to operational response times, you must be based within a commutable distance from the desired locations.
