EA Associates in Ipswich is seeking a Trainee Estimator or Junior Estimator to join its growing commercial team. The role offers structured training, mentoring from experienced estimators, and gradual responsibility through the tendering process.

Candidates with strong numerical skills and an interest in construction are welcomed, including school leavers or graduates; no essential qualification required, but a construction-related qualification is advantageous.

Job description

An established construction business based in Ipswich is looking to appoint a Trainee Estimator or Junior Estimator to join its growing commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their construction career who is keen to develop within estimating. Previous experience would be beneficial, but the business is equally open to a motivated trainee with strong numerical skills and a genuine interest in the industry.

Working alongside experienced estimators and commercial professionals, you will receive ongoing training and gradually take on greater responsibility throughout the tendering process.

Key Responsibilities

• Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation
• Assisting with measurements and quantity take-offs
• Obtaining quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
• Supporting the preparation of estimates and tender submissions
• Comparing quotations and helping identify the most suitable options
• Maintaining accurate pricing information and project records
• Liaising with internal teams, clients, suppliers and subcontractors
• Assisting with project handovers following successful tenders

The Ideal Candidate

• A genuine interest in construction and estimating
• Strong numerical and analytical skills
• Good attention to detail and a methodical approach
• Confident using Microsoft Excel and other standard IT systems
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Organised, reliable and eager to learn
• A construction-related qualification or previous industry experience would be advantageous, but is not essential
