Job summary

Metro Rod Dorset & Portsmouth is seeking a Trainee Drainage Engineer to join the team in the Portsmouth area. This full-time permanent role offers on-the-job training, development opportunities and a chance to learn the drainage trade alongside experienced professionals.

You will carry out essential drainage maintenance tasks, operate high-pressure jetting equipment, assist with surveys and provide excellent service to commercial and domestic clients.

Qualifications

• Previous experience within a hands-on technical/construction role.
• A keen interest in learning the drainage trade.
• Motivation to progress and develop yourself.
• Flexible, positive attitude and can-do approach.
• Willing to work some unsocial hours.
• Physically fit and able to do manual work.
• Full UK driving licence and own transport.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out drainage cleaning, clearance, repair and maintenance.
• Operate high-pressure jetting equipment safely.
• Carrying out drainage surveys.
• Deliver excellent customer service and technical support.
• Record job details using internal systems and apps.
• Communicate with commercial and domestic clients and colleagues to ensure service.
• On-call rota; 24/7 service, roughly one week in four.

This is a full-time permanent role and is ideal for someone who is interesting in the drainage industry and/or learning a trade whereby you can learn on the job. There is a massive opportunity for development, training and progression.

What does it entail?

• Carrying out a range of services associated with the cleaning, clearance, repair, and maintenance of our customers’ drains
• Operation of High-Pressure Water Jetting Equipment in line with rigorous safety standards
• Carrying out surveys
• Providing an exceptional standard of customer service and technical expertise
• Accurately recording work/job details via a range of bespoke internal/client systems and apps
• Communicate effectively with high profile commercial and domestic clients and Metro Rod Support Centre colleagues to ensure excellent customer service is always provided
• Being part of an on-call rota to help service our clients 24/7 / 365 days a year. This would be one week in four– variable according to the business needs
