Routes to Work is seeking a motivated Trainee Data Cable Engineer to start a career in structured cabling and telecommunications. The role involves assisting with installation, learning testing procedures, and supporting safety compliance across sites in Scotland, Northern England and Ireland.

Full training will be provided and you will travel to customer sites with experienced engineers. The position suits a practical, team‑oriented individual willing to learn and travel.

Qualifications

• Aged 18 or over
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Good work ethic and willingness to learn
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Willingness to travel and occasionally work away from home
• Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual tasks
• CSCS Card preferred but not essential
• Previous experience in construction, telecommunications, electrical work, or a similar practical environment

Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation of structured cabling systems.
• Support engineers with cable pulling, containment installation, and termination works.
• Learn to install and test network cabling systems.
• Assist in maintaining high standards of workmanship and health & safety compliance.
• Travel to customer sites as required.
• Complete paperwork and site documentation accurately.
