Job summary

TSG is seeking a Trainee Cyber Security Consultant to join our advisory practice on a structured 12-month programme designed to develop you into a customer-facing cyber security consultant. You will deliver our Cyber Controls service and, as you grow, contribute to revenue-generating professional services across our advisory portfolio.

The role is initially a 12-month fixed-term contract with potential for permanency upon successful milestone achievement.

Qualifications

• Genuine and sustained interest in cyber security demonstrated by self-study, home lab work, online courses, or relevant modules.
• Clear writing ability, especially for customer-facing reports.
• Ability to work with IT systems including Windows, cloud platforms and SaaS apps.
• Comfort with repetitive tasks and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the Cyber Controls service across the customer base, including configuration reviews, control validation and remediation tracking.
• Produce clear customer-facing reports on control status and follow up on actions.
• Maintain service records to audit-ready standards.
• Support ongoing improvement and standardisation of the Cyber Controls service.
• Assist with chargeable consulting engagements under supervision and participate in customer meetings.
• Develop towards independent delivery during the programme.

As a TSG Trainee Cyber Security Consultant, you will join our advisory practice on a structured programme designed to develop you into a customer-facing cyber security consultant. Your primary responsibility will be the delivery of our Cyber Controls service, which underpins the security posture of more than 200 TSG customers. Alongside this, and as your capability develops, you will be given the opportunity to contribute to revenue-generating professional services work across our wider advisory portfolio. This is a role for someone at the start of their cyber security career who wants to learn the discipline properly, through real customer delivery rather than theory.

This is initially a 12 month fixed term with view to going permanent at the end should all of your behavioural, technical and certification milestones be met.

Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to;

• Deliver the Cyber Controls service across TSG's customer base, including but not limited to configuration reviews, control validation, reporting and remediation tracking
• Produce clear, accurate customer-facing reports on control status, and follow up on outstanding remediation actions
• Maintain service records and documentation to a standard that supports customer audit and internal quality review
• Identify recurring issues across the customer base and elevate patterns to the wider cyber team
• Contribute to the continuous improvement and standardisation of the Cyber Controls service
• Support chargeable consulting engagements alongside experienced consultants, including but not limited to Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus assessments, and security gap analyses based on other recognised frameworks as and when the need requires
• Prepare supporting materials, evidence packs and draft reports for customer engagements under supervision
• Attend customer meetings in a supporting capacity, developing towards independent delivery over the course of the programme
• Work towards agreed learning objectives and relevant industry certifications during the 12-month term and beyond
• Work alongside the SOC and wider cyber practice to build a rounded understanding of how advisory and operational security fit together
• Build a working knowledge of the Microsoft security stack and the tooling TSG uses to deliver its services
• Keep pace with current threats, vulnerabilities and regulatory developments relevant to our customers

Knowledge, Skills & Experience;

• Cyber security qualifications / certifications would be desirable
• Demonstrable evidence of a genuine and sustained interest in cyber security, which might include self-directed study, home lab work, online courses or certifications in progress, a relevant academic module, or any other credible evidence that you have pursued this subject on your own initiative
• A general working knowledge of IT systems, including Windows, cloud platforms and SaaS applications
• The ability to write clearly and accurately, particularly in producing reports intended for a customer audience
• Comfort working with detail, and the discipline to complete repetitive work to a consistent standard
• Basic understanding of core security concepts such as access control, patching, encryption and multi-factor authentication
• Strong communicator and relationship builder who has confidence in dealing with customers, or clear potential to develop it
