Job summary

Vision for Education are seeking Trainee School Cover Supervisors to join our successful supply teaching team across Preston and surrounding areas. You will supervise pupils in the absence of a teacher and manage classes with pre-set work.

The role offers a great chance to gain experience in a secondary school and progress toward Initial Teacher Training. Training is provided, with free bespoke courses and ongoing CPD support from our friendly team.

Qualifications

• No previous experience required; transferable skills from previous jobs are acceptable.
• Desire to learn and develop new skills in a school environment.
• Friendly and approachable with good communication.
• Confidence to be assertive while offering support to pupils.

Responsibilities

• Supervise classes in the absence of a teacher.
• Manage behaviour and keep pupils on task with pre-set work.
• Record accurate registers and provide handover notes to the absent teacher.
• Support students within a secondary school setting and contribute to a positive environment.

Pay: £18 - £25 per hour (salary is dependent on experience and/or qualifications)

Summary

Vision for Education are seeking for Trainee School Cover Supervisors to join our successful supply teaching team and work within our partnership local secondary schools across Preston and surrounding areas.

What is a Cover Supervisor?

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be expected to supervise pupils in the absence of a teacher, managing the class and ensuring that pupils remain on task with pre-set work.

You will cover classes across the full range of secondary school subjects, but don't worry, you are not expected to be a subject specialist in each area. The lesson will always be planned and provided in advance.

The key aspects of the Cover Supervisor role are:

• Facilitate the classes' learning
• Manage behaviour issues
• Record accurate registers
• Provide handover notes to the absent teacher

This role provides a great opportunity to gain experience of working within a Secondary school prior to applying to Initial Teacher Training. Although previous experience of working in a Secondary School is desirable it is not essential.

Training

Vision for Education has created a bespoke FREE OF CHARGE Cover Supervisor training programme designed in collaboration with the North East Partnership Teacher Training provision.

Our training programme consists of some online courses and a half-day, in-house training session, covering all aspects of the role including what to expect day-to-day and next steps. Following the session, our team will continue to support you once working within schools, continuing to offer a variety of CPD courses and inclusive support from our experienced and friendly team.
