Job summary

Groundworks Contractor Essex is seeking a Contracts Manager or Trainee Contracts Manager to join the management team in Essex. The role involves delivering several groundworks projects from pre-start to completion, coordinating Site Managers, engineers and site teams, and working with the commercial team to monitor costs and progress.

You will ideally have experience in groundworks or civil engineering projects and be comfortable liaising with clients, site teams and the commercial department.

An established and growing groundworks contractor based in Essex is looking to appoint a Contracts Manager or Trainee Contracts Manager to join its management team on a permanent basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for either an experienced Contracts Manager looking to join a stable, well-established contractor, or an ambitious Site Manager, Project Manager, Engineer or experienced groundworks professional looking to make the next step into Contracts Management.

The Company

Our client is a successful medium-sized contractor specialising in groundworks and associated civil engineering packages across Essex and the surrounding areas.

The business has built a strong reputation for delivering projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard, with a healthy pipeline of secured work and long-standing relationships with clients.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to strengthen their operational management team.

The Role

Working closely with the company Directors and commercial team, you will assist with or take responsibility for the delivery of multiple groundworks projects from pre-start through to completion.

• Monitoring project programmes and ensuring key dates are achieved
• Attending pre-start, progress and client meetings
• Working closely with Quantity Surveyors and the commercial team
• Monitoring costs, variations and project performance
• Maintaining strong relationships with clients and main contractors
• Ensuring projects meet required Health & Safety and quality standards
• Resolving operational and technical issues as they arise
• Reporting project progress to senior management
• Supporting projects through to successful completion and handover

About You

For the Contracts Manager position, you will ideally already have experience managing multiple groundworks or civil engineering projects and be comfortable dealing directly with clients, site teams and the commercial department.

For the Trainee Contracts Manager position, previous Contracts Manager experience is not essential. We are particularly interested in speaking with ambitious candidates who already understand groundworks and construction and are ready to progress their career.

You may currently be working as a: Site Manager | Project Manager | Assistant Contracts Manager | Site Engineer | Senior Engineer | General Foreman | Groundworks Manager

A practical understanding of areas such as drainage, foundations, roads & sewers, earthworks, external works and associated groundworks packages would be highly beneficial.

You should be organised, commercially aware, confident communicating with clients and site teams, and capable of taking increasing responsibility as you develop.

A full UK driving licence will be required due to travel between sites.
