Job summary

Great Ormond Street Hospital is seeking two proactive individuals to join the Rare and Inherited Disease Genomics Laboratory as Pre-registration (trainee) Clinical Scientists in Genomics. You will work under supervision on analytical and reporting tasks to support genomic testing services for prenatal and postnatal samples.

The role requires sound knowledge of clinical diagnostic genetics/genomics, a plan to develop a portfolio for HCPC registration, and hands-on experience in an accredited

Qualifications

• First or Second Class Degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or related subject
• Extensive postgraduate experience in NHS rare disease genomics laboratory
• Extensive knowledge of clinical genomics and demonstrable track record in delivering diagnostic service
• Knowledge of CNV analytical methods and clinical applications OR variant classification per ACGS guidance
• Experience with laboratory information and quality management systems
• Good organisational and interpersonal skills; able to adapt to changes in workflow and organisation
• Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; able to write protocols
• Desirable: Postgraduate qualification in Genomics
• Desirable: Background in cytogenetic and molecular procedures
• Desirable: NGS applications / Sanger Sequencing and/or genomic CNV analysis

Responsibilities

• Work under supervision in analytical and reporting work for genomic testing services
• Support core+ and prenatal teams performing molecular and cytogenetic testing
• Contribute to NHSE Genomic Test Directory compliance and quality standards
