Job summary

SSEN Distribution, part of the SSE group, offers a structured Trainee Cable Jointer programme. You will train at our dedicated school while joining a team responsible for installing, jointing and repairing cables to keep the electricity network safe and reliable.

The 18–24 month programme combines technical and on-the-job learning, offering a nationally recognised qualification. Earn while you learn, with progression through a pay matrix and a company vehicle towards the end.

Qualifications

• Customer-focused with ability to build relationships with customers, stakeholders and the public.
• Hand skills - stripping meter tails, using hand tools and fixing meters to boards.
• Thirst for knowledge and training; able to pick up new skills quickly in a team.
• Strong Health & Safety focus; follow the motto: "if it's not safe, we don't do it."
• Proactive and flexible; plan, use initiative, adapt to change to ensure right equipment and quality work.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Preparing cables and carrying out jointing and terminations.
• Assisting on LV (415V-1000V) and HV (11kV-33kV) networks.
• Support excavation, installation, and repair works and maintenance/refurbishment of substation equipment.
• Working safely and promoting a strong safety-first culture.
• Delivering customer service during planned and emergency work.
