Description
The Trainee Assistant Grower is responsible for executing growing operational tasks in both our cucumber and tomato crops as directed by the growing team, ensuring the best possible product quality and the maximum yield is achieved. Whilst being predominantly based at our Norwich site, 1 day per week is to be spent at our Ely site to support with trials.
Key Responsibilities
- To attend weekly growing meetings with the team to share thoughts, brainstorm, feedback and provide observations.
- To participate in crop walks with the growing team, sharing and developing knowledge.
- To work closely with the team to execute the growing strategy, covering key areas/operational gaps, such as maintaining fertiliser stock and mixing tanks.
- To complete plant registration and relevant measurements.
- To collaborate with the team leaders in the greenhouse by supporting them with quality control on labour tasks.
- To develop trial protocols to evaluate the performance of various crop varieties, cultivation practices, and crop protection at both Norwich & Ely.
- To monitor and record data on plant growth, yield, pest and diseases and any other relevant parameters during trials.
- To interpret trial results through collecting data and generating reports to summarise findings and make recommendations.
- To stay up to date with research and advancements, including new varieties.
- To ensure relevant compliance documentation is completed and safety protocols/regulatory requirements are adhered to during trials.
- To complete pest and disease scouting and related tasks at the Norwich site in both tomatoes and cucumbers, to include monitoring and scouting of pest and disease in the greenhouse with the aim of early detection and identification.
