Job summary

A prominent housing association is seeking a Trainee Asbestos Surveyor to join their Property Services team. In this role, you’ll work towards becoming competent in conducting refurbishment and management surveys along with asbestos inspections. About The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Asbestos Surveyor to join our Property Services team. In this role, you’ll work towards becoming competent in carrying out refurbishment, demolition and management surveys, as well as asbestos inspections across our property stock. You’ll produce asbestos reports for internal and external clients, attend urgent asbestos‑related situations, and work alongside a qualified Surveyor during your training, aiming to demonstrate competency within six months.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake refurbishment, demolition, management surveys and inspections at a trainee level.
  • Produce asbestos survey reports in line with HSG 264, which will be audited by your mentor.
  • Carry out asbestos sampling under supervision and update stock data in the asset management system.
  • Attend emergency asbestos‑related situations during and outside normal working hours.
  • Assist with preparing reports, statistics and other required information.
  • Ensure effective resident consultation and attend meetings when needed.

This is a full‑time role working 40 hours per week.

This is a mobile role based in the field in the Cornwall area – you should be based within a 30‑minute commute of this area.

About The Candidate

To be successful in your application for the role of Trainee Asbestos Surveyor, you will have the essential skills and experience for a Level 1 role and the following role‑specific skills and experience:

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience of domestic dwelling inspections from a technical perspective, with a strong understanding of the built environment.
  • Clear and demonstrable knowledge of Health and Safety and Asbestos legislation relevant to the construction industry, including HHSRS.
  • BOHS P402 qualification.
  • Good level of literacy and numeracy.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Practical experience of working in the construction industry and/or social housing sector.
  • Experience of undertaking property inspections within an RSL, local authority, public authority or private practice.
  • Understanding of the Decent Homes Standard and Housing Health & Safety Rating System.
  • Previous experience of asbestos inspections for at least six months.
  • BOHS P405 qualification.
  • Degree in a related subject or CIOB/CIH/RICS equivalent qualification.

Please note, we are unable to provide CoS for this role; therefore, applicants must have the right to work in the UK for the full duration of this role without requiring a CoS.
