Job summary

South Western Railway in Wimbledon, UK, is recruiting a Guard to lead on-board service and safety. You will help passengers reach destinations with vigilance, adaptability, and a strong customer focus.

Working pattern averages 37 hours per week over 4.5 days, including early and late shifts across 7 days. Training occurs in Basingstoke with travel provided; successful candidates may be invited to an assessment in Southampton.

Qualifications

• Must be safety conscious and customer focused.
• Self-motivated and personable with the ability to multitask.
• Flexible in times of disruption and able to work autonomously or in a team.
• Excellent communication to provide a great customer experience.
• Able to recognise and act on changing safety and customer requirements.
• Manual handling and assisting passengers on/off the train when required.

Responsibilities

• Staying alert to danger and ensuring safety of customers and colleagues at all times.
• Be an ambassador for SWR and strive to exceed customer expectations.
• Manage disruptions and communicate changes to customers.
• Be visible on journeys and proactively assist passengers for a great journey.
• Provide regular announcements and updates to passengers.
• Manage on-board safety including boarding/alighting and dispatching the train.
• Check passengers have valid tickets when necessary.
