Job summary

City of Doncaster Council is seeking a Traffic Signals & Control Engineer to join the Safer Roads team. This role focuses on the design, operation and development of traffic signal infrastructure and ITS across the city, coordinating with internal departments and external partners.

You will manage signal assets, develop timings, and support capital highway projects, with a strong emphasis on safety, efficiency and standards compliance. Hybrid work from the Civic Office is available.

Qualifications

• Experience in the design, operation or maintenance of traffic signal systems.
• Knowledge of traffic signal control technology including UTC, MOVA and SCOOT.
• Understanding of legislation, standards and guidance for traffic signals and highway operations.

Responsibilities

• Managing maintenance, inspection and performance of traffic signal installations.
• Designing and commissioning new traffic signal and pedestrian crossing schemes.
• Developing signal timings and traffic management strategies to improve network performance.
• Supporting ITS and city-wide traffic system deployments.
• Managing contracts and suppliers involved in signal maintenance and upgrades.
• Investigating congestion and road safety concerns and advising stakeholders.
