Traffic Management Officer (NRSWA Certified)

Location: Exeter
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: £14/h

Job Overview:
We are seeking a Traffic Management Officer with an NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act) certification to join our team. This individual will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing traffic management on various projects, ensuring the safety of workers, the public, and compliance with traffic regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in traffic management planning, implementation, and reporting, along with a strong understanding of the relevant NRSWA guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Traffic Management Planning & Implementation:
    • Plan and implement traffic management strategies for construction, maintenance, or emergency works.
    • Ensure compliance with the NRSWA regulations, local authority guidelines, and safety standards.
    • Design and set up safe and effective traffic control systems for road closures, diversions, and other works on public roads.
  • Site Supervision & Monitoring:
    • Oversee the installation and maintenance of traffic management signs, barriers, and equipment.
    • Monitor ongoing works to ensure traffic management is effective and safe for the public and workers.
    • Carry out regular site inspections to check for compliance with safety and traffic regulations.
  • Liaison & Coordination:
    • Work closely with local authorities, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
    • Communicate with the public regarding roadworks and diversions to minimize disruptions.
    • Manage emergency traffic management responses when necessary.
  • Reporting & Documentation:
    • Complete accurate reports on traffic management setups and any incidents or disruptions.
    • Maintain records of inspections, work orders, and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Risk Assessment & Safety Compliance:
    • Conduct risk assessments and ensure that safety standards are maintained during all traffic management operations.
    • Promote a safety-first culture and ensure that all staff follow health and safety procedures.
  • NRSWA Compliance:
    • Ensure all traffic management plans and operations are fully compliant with the NRSWA.
    • Maintain personal NRSWA certification and stay up to date with changes in regulations.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Essential:
    • NRSWA Street Works Supervisor or Operative certification.
    • Proven experience in traffic management planning and execution.
    • Strong understanding of traffic regulations, road safety, and public safety procedures.
    • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team.
    • Ability to assess and manage risk effectively.
    • Full, clean UK driving license.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience working with local authorities or on large-scale infrastructure projects.
    • Additional certifications in health and safety (e.g., CSCS, First Aid).
    • Knowledge of traffic management software or tools.

Working Conditions:
  • Hours: Full-time, with occasional evening and weekend work based on project requirements.
  • Location: Site-based, with occasional office work for planning and reporting.
  • Salary: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications.
