Job summary

Pertemps West Bromwich is seeking a Toolroom Operative in Oldbury to join a manufacturing client on a full-time, permanent basis. The role involves manufacturing and repairing press and shear tooling, maintaining machinery, and fault-finding to reduce downtime.

You will work with CNC and manual equipment, including surface grinders, milling machines, lathes and wire EDM. Training for forklift and overhead crane duties is provided, with a focus on meeting agreed timescales and delivering

Job description

This Toolroom Operative role in Oldbury is a full-time, permanent position paying £17.45 per hour. Working hours run 07:30 to 16:00 Monday through Thursday, with an early Friday finish at 12:30. The successful candidate will manufacture and repair press and shear tooling to engineering drawings, carry out maintenance and fault-finding to reduce production downtime, and operate CNC and manual machinery including surface grinders, milling machines, lathes and wire EDM. Supporting tooling try-outs and meeting agreed timescales is essential. Forklift Truck and Overhead Crane duties form part of the job, though training can be provided. Proven experience in press and shear tool manufacture and maintenance is required.

Pertemps West Bromwich are looking for an experienced Toolroom Engineer/Toolroom Operative on behalf of our manufacturing client in Oldbury. The hours for this role are 07:30am-16:00pm Monday-Thursday and 07:30am-12:30am Friday paying £17.45 per hour for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacture and repair press and shear tooling to engineering drawings and specified tolerances.

Carry out maintenance and fault-finding to minimise production downtime.

Use CNC and manual machinery, including surface grinders, milling machines, lathes and wire EDM.

Support tooling try-outs and ensure work is completed within agreed timescales.

Operate Forklift Trucks and Overhead Cranes when required - training provided.

About You

Proven experience in press and shear tool manufacture, maintenance and fault-finding.

Experience using both CNC and manual machinery, including: Surface grinding, Milling, Turning, Fixturing, Wire EDM.

The ability to read, interpret and work accurately from engineering drawings and specified tolerances.

Strong practical engineering and problem-solving skills.

Excellent attention to detail, with accuracy being paramount.

The ability to prioritise workload and work effectively to tight deadlines in a pressured production environment.

A well-organised, self-motivated and professional approach.

Good timekeeping and attendance.

The ability to take responsibility for individual objectives while contributing effectively to wider team goals.

Good computer literacy and the ability to communicate and accurately record information.
