Job summary

MET Recruitment UK LTD is seeking a Toolroom Operative / Toolmaker for an on-site role in Oldbury. The position offers £33,000 per annum with a 37-hour week, Monday–Friday, and an on-site working arrangement.

The successful candidate will manufacture, repair and maintain tooling, with a focus on pre-pierce and cut tooling, and operate CNC and manual Toolroom machinery while reading engineering drawings and adhering to tolerances. A hands-on, problem-solving approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Previous hands-on experience with pre‑pierce and cut tooling – essential.
• Experience in press/shear tool manufacture, maintenance and fault finding.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and tolerances.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Hands-on, practical approach in a busy production environment.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture, maintain, repair and fault‑find press and shear tooling.
• Work specifically with pre‑pierce and cut tooling.
• Operate CNC and conventional/manual Toolroom machinery.
• Undertake surface grinding, milling and turning.
• Work with fixturing and wire EDM.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Work accurately to specified tolerances.
• Support tooling breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
• Manufacture new components and tooling to meet production requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement across the Toolroom and wider manufacturing operation.

Toolroom Operative / Toolmaker

£33,000 per annum

Monday–Friday | Days | 37 hours per week | On-Site

MET Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Toolroom Operative / Toolmaker to join a well-established manufacturing business in Oldbury.

This is a hands‑on position within a busy engineering and manufacturing environment, supporting production through the manufacture, repair and maintenance of tooling and components.

Please note: previous hands‑on experience working with pre‑pierce and cut tooling is essential for this vacancy.

The role

Working as part of the Toolroom team, you will:

• Manufacture, maintain, repair and fault‑find press and shear tooling
• Work specifically with pre‑pierce and cut tooling
• Operate CNC and conventional/manual Toolroom machinery
• Undertake surface grinding, milling and turning
• Work with fixturing and wire EDM
• Read and interpret engineering drawings

What we're looking for

We are specifically looking for candidates with a strong Toolroom / Toolmaking background within a manufacturing environment.

You will need:

• Previous experience with pre‑pierce and cut tooling – essential
• Experience in press/shear tool manufacture, maintenance and fault finding
• CNC and manual machining experience
• Surface grinding, milling and turning experience
• Ability to read engineering drawings and work accurately to tolerances
• Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
• A practical, hands‑on approach
• Ability to work effectively within a busy production environment

Forklift and overhead crane experience would be useful but isn't essential, as training can be provided.

Hours & package

Salary: £33,000 per annum

Hours: Monday–Thursday 7:30am–4:00pm; Friday 7:30am–12:30pm — 37 hours per week.
