Job summary

Spectra Packaging Solutions Ltd is seeking a hands-on Toolroom Manager to lead a fast-paced toolroom in a bottle, cap and decoration manufacturing environment. You will oversee CNC machining, mould maintenance, tooling repairs, and day-to-day leadership of the toolroom team.

Report to Production/Engineering, you will plan workloads, drive continuous improvement, manage tooling inventories and suppliers, and ensure safety and high-quality tooling solutions across projects.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Toolroom Manager or similar technical management role.
• Strong CNC machining and tooling knowledge with plastics packaging environment experience.
• Good understanding of drawings, tolerances and precision measurement.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Toolroom Manager to work on dayshift, 39 hours per week.

As Toolroom Manager, you will be responsible for managing all toolroom activities within a fast paced bottle, cap and decoration manufacturing environment. This includes overseeing the CNC machining processes, mould maintenance, tooling repairs, new tool development and day-to-day leadership of the toolroom team.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Lead and manage the daily operations of the toolroom, ensuring safe, efficient, and effective performance, whilst maintaining the highest of quality standards.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of toolmakers, CNC machinists, and apprentices.
• Plan, schedule, and prioritise toolroom workloads to support production requirements.
• Oversee preventative maintenance, repair, and modification of tooling.
• Manage CNC machining operations including programming, setup, and optimisation.
• Ensure tooling is manufactured and maintained to the highest quality standards.
• Work closely with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to resolve tooling and manufacturing issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, improve tooling life, and increase productivity.
• Monitor tooling performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.
• Manage tooling inventories, spare parts, and consumables.
• Support new product introduction projects and tooling development activities.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and company procedures.
• Manage toolroom budgets, suppliers, and external subcontractors when required.
• Maintain accurate tooling records, maintenance schedules, and technical documentation.

You will:

• Have proven experience as a Toolroom Manager, or similar technical management role (formal qualifications in Toolmaking, Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering desirable)
• Have a strong background in CNC machining, programming and precision engineering (experience with CAD/CAM software desirable)
• Be experienced within plastics packaging, plastic bottle manufacturing, blow moulding, injection moulding or related industries.
• Have comprehensive knowledge of mould tooling manufacture, repair and maintenance.
• Have strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances and precision measurement techniques.
• Be experienced in managing teams within a manufacturing environment.
• Have excellent planning, organisational and communication abilities, with strong problem solving and root-cause analysis skills.
• Have the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
