Job summary

Technical Placements Ltd in the UK is seeking an experienced Toolroom Machinist to join a leading aerospace manufacturer in South Leicester. The role covers CNC and conventional machining of electrodes and tooling, with a three-day weekend shift pattern.

You will read engineering drawings, operate CNC and manual machines, and inspect components to high precision using CMM and gauges. Training provided before permanent weekend shift.

Qualifications

• Experience in engineering/manufacturing environment.
• Machining experience—CNC and manual milling, grinding and turning.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience with precision components or tooling.
• CNC cutter grinding experience advantageous.
• Engineering qualification or Toolroom apprenticeship advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to learn and develop Toolroom skills.

Responsibilities

• Re-cutting electrodes using CNC milling machines and manual surface grinders.
• Manufacturing new electrodes using manual and CNC Toolroom machinery.
• Inspecting electrodes using CMM equipment and manual gauges.
• Re-grinding and manufacturing milling cutters using CNC cutter grinders.
• Carrying out assembly and bench-fitting work.
• Working accurately from engineering drawings.
• Responding to production requirements to minimise manufacturing downtime.
• Working closely with production and engineering departments.
• Producing tooling accurately and to required quality standards.

South Leicester | Friday-Sunday | 5:45am-5:45pm | £19.63 per hour | Permanent

Excellent opportunity for an experienced CNC / Toolroom Machinist to join a leading aerospace manufacturer in South Leicester, working a three-day weekend shift covering Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

We have recruited for this growing manufacturer for over 20 years. They manufacture precision components for the aerospace and industrial gas turbine industries and offer excellent working conditions, long-term stability and opportunities for development.

Working within the Toolroom, you will manufacture, modify and inspect specialist tooling and electrodes used to support the wider aerospace manufacturing operation.

The Role

This is a varied, hands-on position involving both CNC and conventional machining, including:

• Re-cutting electrodes using CNC milling machines and manual surface grinders
• Manufacturing new electrodes using manual and CNC Toolroom machinery
• Inspecting electrodes using CMM equipment and manual gauges
• Re-grinding and manufacturing milling cutters using CNC cutter grinders
• Carrying out assembly and bench-fitting work
• Working accurately from engineering drawings
• Responding to production requirements to minimise manufacturing downtime
• Working closely with production and engineering departments
• Producing tooling accurately and to required quality standards

What We're Looking For

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous practical experience within an engineering/manufacturing environment
• Machining experience - ideally CNC and manual milling, grinding and turning
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Experience working with precision components or tooling
• CNC cutter grinding experience would be advantageous
• A recognised engineering qualification, Toolroom apprenticeship or equivalent would be advantageous
• Strong attention to detail and practical problem-solving skills
• A willingness to learn and develop additional Toolroom skills

Pay & Weekend Shift

Basic rate: £15.70 per hour

Weekend shift premium: 25%

Weekend rate: £19.63 per hour

Friday: 5.45am-5.45pm

Saturday: 5.45am-5.45pm

Sunday: 5.45am-5.45pm

This offers the benefit of completing your normal working week across three 12-hour shifts.

Please note that the successful candidate will initially be required to work during the week for a period of training and familiarisation before moving onto the permanent weekend shift.
