Job summary

Proactive Global is seeking an experienced Toolmaker to join a manufacturing team in Greater London. You will design and manufacture tooling using 2D/3D CAD, assemble and test tooling, and collaborate with engineering to ensure tooling meets production needs.

You will maintain and repair tooling, manage workload with the Toolroom team, and drive improvements in tooling performance and reliability using precise measurement and data-driven decisions.

Qualifications

• Proven experience working as a Toolmaker in engineering/manufacturing.
• Strong practical toolmaking and machining skills.
• Experience manufacturing, maintaining and repairing production tooling.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical information.
• Experience using 2D/3D CAD for tooling or engineering applications.
• Experience with Wire EDM, CNC and/or conventional machining equipment.
• Strong understanding of tooling manufacture, testing, modification and maintenance.
• Experience working with jigs, fixtures and gauges is advantageous.
• Good measurement and inspection skills to support engineering decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design and manufacture tooling using 2D and 3D CAD software and associated systems.
• Manufacture, assemble and test tooling in line with technical requirements and production deadlines.
• Design and manufacture jigs, fixtures and gauges to support manufacturing processes.
• Maintain, repair and modify production tooling to ensure continued manufacturing capability.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure tooling is fit for purpose.
• Plan and coordinate tooling maintenance activities with manufacturing teams.
• Respond to unplanned tooling repairs and production requirements as needed.
• Operate Toolroom machinery and equipment including Wire EDM, CNC and conventional machines.
• Work with other Toolmakers to complete machining, tooling and repair requirements.
• Manage tooling manufacture and workload priorities with Toolroom management team.
• Support development and improvement of existing and new tooling.
• Track tooling modifications and identify opportunities to improve performance and reliability.
• Carry out part and tooling measurements to support tooling development and decisions.
• Support development, testing and intro of new tooling with engineering teams.
• Assist in transition of new tooling into production and resolve issues during trials.

Job description

Position: Toolmaker

Proactive are currently recruiting for an experienced Toolmaker to join an established engineering and manufacturing business.

As a Toolmaker, you'll play a key role in ensuring tooling is produced and maintained to the required quality and timescales, supporting production and working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver effective tooling solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Design and manufacture tooling using 2D and 3D CAD software and associated engineering systems


• Manufacture, assemble and test tooling in line with technical requirements and production deadlines


• Design and manufacture jigs, fixtures and gauges to support manufacturing processes


• Maintain, repair and modify production tooling to ensure continued manufacturing capability


• Work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure tooling is fit for purpose and meets operational requirements


• Plan and coordinate tooling maintenance activities alongside relevant manufacturing teams


• Respond to unplanned tooling repairs and production requirements where required


• Operate Toolroom machinery and equipment, including Wire EDM, CNC and conventional/manual machining equipment


• Work collaboratively with other Toolmakers to complete machining, tooling and repair requirements


• Manage tooling manufacture and workload priorities in conjunction with the Toolroom management team

Skills:

• Proven experience working as a Toolmaker within an engineering or manufacturing environment


• Strong practical toolmaking and machining skills
