Job summary

Exeter-based Engineering firm is seeking a Tooling Engineer with strong CAD reading skills to assist in tooling production and model development for testing. The role blends office and shop floor work and requires good analytical abilities.

The ideal candidate will have HNC or degree-level qualification (or apprenticeship) in engineering, with experience in toolmaking, tool design, and CAE tools for CNC, CAD and 3D modelling.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Tooling Engineer or Toolmaker.
• Ability to read CAD drawings to assist in tooling production.
• HNC or Graduate level or apprenticeship in engineering.
• Good analytical and database skills.
• Export control restrictions (ITAR) compliance.

Responsibilities

• Engineer models from CAD drawings for testing.
• Drive continuous improvement in production and process areas.
• Apply production planning, control and manufacturing systems knowledge to reduce scrap.

Tooling Engineer

The Opportunity:

An exciting opportunity within a leading Exeter based Engineering firm for an experienced Tooling Engineer or Toolmaker. You will not be produding designs yourself, but it is essential that you can read CAD drawings to assist in the production ofTooling solutionsfor the customers. Ideally HNC or Graduate level, or possibly having completed an apprenticeship, you will have a good appreciation of toolmaking with a practical application. The role is a mix of office and shop floor and good analytical and database skills are also required.

The Role:

• You will receive existing CAD drawings from your customer base and use your Tooling experience to engineer models for testing.
• Ensure the product and process area is always evolving in a state of continuous improvement, to allow our product to meet the challenges of the customers advanced designs and market differentiation.
• Apply your comprehensive understanding of production planning, control and basic manufacturing systems in order to reduce product related scrap and rework through root cause analysis.
• Troubleshooting manufacturing problems and undertaking root cause analysis with a good understanding of CNC machining, CAD and/or 3D modelling essential.

Preferred Skills:

• Previous experience as a Tooling Engineer, Toolmaker or similar absolutely essential.
• Tooling design and/or CAD experience useful.
• Proficiency in using CAE tools for CNC machining, CAD, and 3D modelling.
• Degree/HNC or equivalent in Engineering discipline plus 4 years applicable engineering experience.
