Job summary

Meridian Business Support is seeking a Tooling Engineer for an Exeter-based engineering firm. The role involves interpreting CAD drawings to devise tooling solutions for customers, with a mix of office and shop floor work.

A strong grounding in toolmaking concepts and practical application is essential. You will work with customer CAD data, support continuous improvement, and perform root-cause analysis on production issues, including CNC machining and 3D modelling.

Qualifications

• Degree/HNC or equivalent in Engineering discipline with 4 years applicable engineering experience.
• Experience as a Tooling Engineer or Toolmaker is essential.
• Proficiency with CAD/CAM, CAD and 3D modelling tools.

Responsibilities

• Review customer CAD drawings to engineer tooling models for testing.
• Drive continuous improvement in production to meet advanced designs and market needs.
• Apply production planning and control knowledge to reduce scrap and rework via root cause analysis.

Tooling Engineer

The Opportunity:

An exciting opportunity within a leading Exeter based Engineering firm for an experienced Tooling Engineer or Toolmaker. You will not be produding designs yourself, but it is essential that you can read CAD drawings to assist in the production ofTooling solutionsfor the customers. Ideally HNC or Graduate level, or possibly having completed an apprenticeship, you will have a good appreciation of toolmaking with a practical application. The role is a mix of office and shop floor and good analytical and database skills are also required.

The Role:

• You will receive existing CAD drawings from your customer base and use your Tooling experience to engineer models for testing.
• Ensure the product and process area is always evolving in a state of continuous improvement, to allow our product to meet the challenges of the customers advanced designs and market differentiation.
• Apply your comprehensive understanding of production planning, control and basic manufacturing systems in order to reduce product related scrap and rework through root cause analysis.
• Troubleshooting manufacturing problems and undertaking root cause analysis with a good understanding of CNC machining, CAD and/or 3D modelling essential.

Preferred Skills:

• Previous experience as a Tooling Engineer, Toolmaker or similar absolutely essential.
• Tooling design and/or CAD experience useful.
• Proficiency in using CAE tools for CNC machining, CAD, and 3D modelling.
• Degree/HNC or equivalent in Engineering discipline plus 4 years applicable engineering experience.
