Job summary

Probe UK, Derbyshire-based precision tooling specialist, seeks an experienced Toolmaker / Tooling Engineer to lead from drawings to production-ready tools. You will run conventional and CNC machining, EDM processes and assemble, test and modify tooling in a collaborative environment.

You will interpret complex tooling drawings, use 2D AutoCAD for tooling layout, and work with FANUC-controlled wire EDM, CNC equipment and surface grinders. A hands-on, quality-focused approach is essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in tooling manufacture from drawings to finished tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret simple and complex tooling drawings.
  • Experience with CNC, EDM and precision grinding processes.

Responsibilities

  • Operate milling machines, lathes, spark erosion equipment and surface grinders.
  • Interpret tooling drawings and translate to finished tools.
  • Use 2D AutoCAD to support tooling manufacture and modifications.
  • Manufacture, assemble and qualify tools from start to finish.
  • Make tooling alterations after trials and testing.
  • Program and operate FANUC-driven wire EDM, CNC equipment, EDM die sinking and CNC spark drilling machinery.
  • Collaborate with on-site engineering and development teams during trials.

Job description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Toolmaker / Tooling Engineer to join a well-established and technically focused manufacturing business in Derbyshire. The role will involve the manufacture, assembly, maintenance and modification of specialist production tooling, working closely with the wider engineering and development teams.

The Role

The Toolmaker / Tooling Engineer will be responsible for taking tooling projects from initial drawings through to completed, production-ready tools. This will involve a combination of conventional machining, CNC machining and EDM processes, together with tool assembly, testing and subsequent modifications where required.

Toolmaker / Tooling Engineer Salary, Benefits and Working hours
  • £35,798 to start, with the opportunity to progress into a Senior role
  • 45 hours per week, days only hours Monday to Friday

This role is commutable from: Derby, Ashbourne, Burton, Uttoxeter, Stoke, Matlock, Belper, Ilkeston, Nottingham

Key Responsibilities and Experience will Include
  • Operating a range of milling machines, lathes, spark erosion equipment and precision surface grinders.
  • Interpreting both straightforward and complex tooling and engineering drawings and translating these into finished components and complete tools.
  • Using 2D AutoCAD to support tooling manufacture and modifications.
  • Manufacturing, assembling and completing tools from start to finish, working to the required standards of accuracy and quality.
  • The Toolmaker / Tooling Engineer will make tooling alterations and improvements following tool trials and testing.
  • Programming and operating FANUC-controlled wire EDM, CNC equipment, EDM die sinking and CNC spark drilling machinery.
  • Working as part of a small, skilled toolmaking team while collaborating closely with the on-site engineering and development teams during trials and testing.
